# Walletguide Docs > Guides, REST API reference, CLI and MCP for Walletguide: net worth, assets, transactions and cash flow for people who run their own money like a business. ## When to use Walletguide Walletguide tracks personal wealth: bank and brokerage accounts, property, crypto, and anything else someone owns, with the transactions behind them. Reach for it to answer questions about one person's actual finances: what they are worth, where it moved, what a category costs per month, how a plan compares to what happened. Use the REST API or the MCP server when an agent needs those numbers, and the CLI for scripts and exports. Every call is scoped to one wallet and needs an API key or an OAuth grant; nothing is readable anonymously. Walletguide reads from banks and brokers and does not move money. ## Getting the numbers right Ask the `data/*` endpoints for a metric. They run over the full history on the server and apply the rules the rows do not carry on their own: split transactions, transfers between two of your own accounts, offset categories. Listing transactions and adding them up gives you one page of them, quietly. ## Machine-readable entry points - [OpenAPI 3.1 document](https://docs.walletguide.com/openapi.json), served live at https://api.walletguide.com/openapi - MCP: the hosted endpoint at https://api.walletguide.com/mcp - CLI: the npm package `walletguide` - [Every page as one Markdown file](https://docs.walletguide.com/llms-full.txt) ## Get started - [Get started](https://docs.walletguide.com/get-started): Create a wallet, bring your accounts in, and get to a net worth you trust — then reach the same data from the API, the CLI or an agent. ## Concepts - [Asset groups](https://docs.walletguide.com/concepts/common-objects/asset-groups): Organising the assets list into the groupings you actually think in, and what that changes in the reports. - [Assets](https://docs.walletguide.com/concepts/common-objects/assets): Everything you own or owe — bank accounts, portfolios, property, crypto, loans — and how each one contributes to net worth. - [Categories](https://docs.walletguide.com/concepts/common-objects/categories): What turns a list of payments into an income and expense report: category types, groups, and the system categories you cannot edit. - [Files](https://docs.walletguide.com/concepts/common-objects/files): Attaching statements, contracts and receipts, and having a parseable statement become transactions. - [Merchants](https://docs.walletguide.com/concepts/common-objects/merchants): Who you paid. Default categories that make new transactions categorise themselves, and the merchant spend report. - [Tags](https://docs.walletguide.com/concepts/common-objects/tags): A second, free-form way to group transactions across categories — for a trip, a project, or a renovation. - [Transactions](https://docs.walletguide.com/concepts/common-objects/transactions): The rows behind every number: how they arrive, how splitting works, and why a transfer between your own accounts is not income. - [The dashboard](https://docs.walletguide.com/concepts/dashboard): The widgets on the home view, the period control that drives them, and what hiding amounts does. - [Overview](https://docs.walletguide.com/concepts): The model behind Walletguide: wallets, the people in them, and the objects every report and API call is built on. - [Notifications](https://docs.walletguide.com/concepts/notifications): What Walletguide tells you about, where it reaches you, and how the per-wallet email preferences work. - [Team and roles](https://docs.walletguide.com/concepts/team): Inviting people into a wallet, what owners, editors and viewers can each do, custom permissions, and how access works for API keys. - [Wallets](https://docs.walletguide.com/concepts/wallet): The container for everything you track: its base currency, who can reach it, and why most people need only one. ## Reports - [Income and expenses](https://docs.walletguide.com/reports/income-expenses): What came in and what went out, by category, merchant and period — with active and passive income kept apart. - [Overview](https://docs.walletguide.com/reports): The reports Walletguide computes: net worth, income and expenses, recurring spend, plan against actual, and scenarios. - [Net worth](https://docs.walletguide.com/reports/net-worth): What you are worth over time, what it is made of, how liquid it is, and how much of the change was the currency moving. - [Planning](https://docs.walletguide.com/reports/planning): Setting what you expect each category to do per month, and reading actuals against it as the year fills in. - [Recurring](https://docs.walletguide.com/reports/recurring): The payments that repeat, found by looking at what actually happened rather than by asking you to declare them. - [Scenarios](https://docs.walletguide.com/reports/scenarios): Modelling a decision — a move, a sabbatical, a purchase — against your actual position rather than a blank spreadsheet. ## Integrations - [Bank connections](https://docs.walletguide.com/integrations/bank-connections): Connecting an account through finAPI or Plaid, what arrives, and the re-authorisation banks demand every few months. - [Crypto](https://docs.walletguide.com/integrations/crypto): Daily rates for the coins you hold, and how a crypto position is valued over time. - [Overview](https://docs.walletguide.com/integrations): How data gets into Walletguide: bank connections, securities prices, crypto rates, and your own files. - [Importing your own files](https://docs.walletguide.com/integrations/manual-import): CSV and statement imports for banks without a connection, with column mapping you configure once per asset. - [Securities](https://docs.walletguide.com/integrations/securities): Prices for shares, funds and ETFs, so a portfolio is valued at what it is worth rather than what you paid. ## Developers - [API keys](https://docs.walletguide.com/developers/api/api-keys): Create a Walletguide API key, where it is scoped, what it can do, and how to keep it out of your repository. - [Authentication](https://docs.walletguide.com/developers/api/authentication): API keys and OAuth 2.1 for the Walletguide API, which to use when, and the scopes and audiences a token carries. - [Metrics](https://docs.walletguide.com/developers/api/data-slices): The data slices behind net worth, cash flow and every report in Walletguide, and why you should ask them instead of summing transactions. - [Errors](https://docs.walletguide.com/developers/api/errors): The status codes the Walletguide API returns, what each one means, and what to do about it. - [Overview](https://docs.walletguide.com/developers/api/overview): The Walletguide REST API: one base URL, JSON in and out, every route scoped to a wallet, described by an OpenAPI 3.1 document. - [ChangeRole](https://docs.walletguide.com/developers/api/reference/accessrequests/changeRole): Changes another member's role, or their exact permission list. Without permissions the member gets the role's preset. - [CreateApiKey](https://docs.walletguide.com/developers/api/reference/accessrequests/createApiKey): For a script or integration the person runs. The key is a viewer unless role or permissions say otherwise. apiKeyId names the key once it exists. - [DeleteWallet](https://docs.walletguide.com/developers/api/reference/accessrequests/deleteWallet): Deletes the wallet with all its data, for good.
